“I’ve always felt like I’ve been here before, like my soul has lived hundreds even thousands of lives and remembers every fucking one of them. Last Life is about the exhaustion of being human, carrying grief that feels older than you are, wearing all these faces and feeling everything in a world that seems to feel nothing. If reincarnation is real, I think I’ve done my time here. I love hard, I feel deeply, but when this life is over, I hope the universe leaves me the fuck alone.”
“I’ve spent a lot of my life wishing I could take my brain out and shove it into someone else’s skull, just so they could understand what it feels like to be me. Head Transplant is my slightly fucked-up take on empathy, or the complete lack of it. I think people would be a lot less cruel if they had to spend even five minutes inside someone else’s head. But until head transplants become a thing, I guess we’re all just stuck trying to explain ourselves to people who don’t give a shit.”
“Twentyseven is probably one of the most personal songs I’ve ever written. It’s a little time capsule of my friendship with my best friend, Jessica. The kind of friendship you could never fully explain to anyone who wasn’t there. Every little detail in this song is a piece of us, the stupid shit, the memories, the love, and all the things that made our friendship ours. She made the 27 Club by five fucking days, which is such a cruel little detail it almost feels like a joke she’d make. This song isn’t really about how she died. It’s about who we were when she was alive. And fuck, we had a good time.”
“Lip Service is a big fuck you to being treated like a tragedy instead of a person. I’ve spent enough of my life being defined by the worst things that have happened to me, and frankly, I’m fucking bored of it. This song is about taking back the parts of myself that existed before all the grief, the reckless, loud, REZ KID who didn’t give a shit what anyone thought. I don’t need your pity, your apologies, or your lip service. I’ve got a story, but I’m not asking anyone to feel sorry for it.”
